Beneficial effect of nicorandil, a K+-ATP channel opener, on the 'no- reflow' myocardium

We performed myocardial contrast echocardiography in 20 patients with anterior acute myocardial infarction. After coronary reperfusion, nicorandil was administered into the left coronary artery in 10 patients and was not in 10 patients. Nicorandil significantly improved myocardial perfusion to the 'no-reflow' area and regional wall motion in the 'no-reflow' area was better in the convalescent stage in patients with nicorandil administration than in those without. These results suggest that beneficial effect of nicorandil on the 'no-reflow' myocardium.
