Approximate maximum likelihood coherent detection of M-ary PSK signals using Viterbi algorithm

Abstract

Reduced complexity coherent detection based on maximum likelihood sequence estimation using the Viterbi algorithm is proposed for the reception of uncoded M-ary PSK signals with unknown carrier phase. The computer-simulated bit error rate performance of 4 PSK is reported.
