Abstract

Near-wall modeling for large-eddy simulation based on lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is applied to the external flow analyses. In spite of the rapid performance progress of the supercomputer, the near-wall modeling for the turbulent boundary layer is still essential in order to calculate the high Reynolds number wall-bounded turbulent flow that appears in an actual engineering field. Near-wall modeling has been actively studied within the framework of Navier-Stokes equations. However, that based on LBM is rather at its early developing stage, and it has still much room for further developments in terms of the applicability to the flow analysis around arbitrary shapes. In the present study, the unsteady turbulent flow analyses around tandem cylinders are conducted by using the near-wall modeling based on LBM proposed by the authors. The calculation results are compared with the available experimental measurements, and the applicability of the proposed near-wall modeling to the external turbulent flow simulations is validated.
