Antiferromagnetic ordering in (Sr, Ba)2 CuO2(CO3)

The Cu2+ sublattice magnetisation of the layer oxycarbonates Sr2-xBaxCuO2(CO3(0≤x≤1.5) is studied by powder neutron diffraction. The solid solutions with 0≤x≤1.35 order antiferromagnetically with magnetic unit cell dimensions of 2ax2ax2c, TN ≈ 250 K and μmCu ≤0.50μB at 5 K. No long range order is observed for the x = 1.5 sample.
