Abstract
Extraordinary field-insensitive heavy-fermion (HF) state has been recently discovered in the filled-skutterudite SmOs4Sb12. Thermodynamic analysis indicates that weak temperature dependence of magnetization reflects the field insensitiveness of the HF state. The observed magnetic anisotropy is qualitatively consistent with a quartet crystalline-electric-field (CEF) ground state of Sm ions. Largely suppressed magnetization suggests screening of Sm magnetic moments taking place in the HF state.
