Anomalous crystallization induced by ultrasound in Pd42.5Ni 7.5Cu30P20 metallic glass

Crystallization behavior of a Pd42.5Ni7.5Cu 30P20 metallic glass under ultrasonic vibrations of sub-MHz frequency was investigated. The metallic glass was isothermally annealed at different temperatures under ultrasonic vibrations, which was induced by the non-contacting electromagnetic acoustic resonance method. The annealing time for crystallization under ultrasonic vibrations is compared with that without the vibrations by the differential scanning calorimeter. It was found to be far shorter at every annealing temperature.
