Anode process of carbon electrode in molten alkali fluorides

Abstract

The anode process of carbon electrode in LiF-39%NaF system was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA). Two peaks were observed on the cyclic voltammograms. After pre-electrolysis, the first peak was weakened, while the second peak stayed unchanged. It is considered that the first peak corresponded to the discharge of O2- and the second to the discharge of F-. The anode effect occurred when the potential reached the value for the discharge of F-.
