N2 - The angular distribution of photoproduced quasiatomic Auger electrons following fast dissociation of core-excited diatomic molecules is studied theoretically. Within the two-step approach the anisotropy of the Auger electrons is determined by the alignment of the atomic fragment, expressed in terms of photodissociation amplitudes. Numerical calculations are carried out for hydrogen halide molecules, and large alignment transfer from the transient molecule to the fragment core-excited atom is predicted. The results are compared with recent experimental data for HCl.
