N2 - We have investigated the F 1s photoabsorption of a Td symmetry molecule CF4 using angle-resolved ion-yield spectroscopy and found that the ionic fragmentation is anisotropic. With the help of first-principles calculations for the symmetry-resolved F 1s absorption spectrum, the anisotropic fragmentation is interpreted as preferential bond rupture at the F 1s core hole site due to symmetry breaking, in contrast to the case for C 1s photoabsorption.
