Abstract

A resonant cascade model based on a stepwise approach is suggested for the analysis of the angular correlation in the decay of core-excited atomic resonances produced by photoabsorption. The model is applied to the description of angular distributions of resonantly enhanced Auger electrons and fluorescence. The relation of the model with a more rigorous approach based on Fano theory is discussed. Examples of Auger cascade transitions in photoexcited Ar and Ca atoms are considered and in the latter case compared with experiment.
