An isolable bromosilene: Synthesis, structure, and substitution reactions

Abstract

Due to an intrinsically polar π-bond with a narrow π-π∗ gap, silenes (silicon-carbon doubly bonded compounds) should receive remarkable attention as a member of π-conjugation units. We report herein synthesis, structure, and properties of an isolable bromosilene (1). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the planar geometry around the silene moiety with Z-configuration in 1. Substitution of the bromo group in 1 with alkyl, amino, and silyl groups proceeds to afford the corresponding silenes 7ac.
