Abstract

Hydrogenation, Disproportionation, Desorption, Recombination (ILDDR) phenomena have been studied in the new magnetic phase, Sm3(Fe,V)2g. Samples of Sm3(Fe,V)29 were HDDR treated at various temperatures, from700°Cto 950°C. XRD measurements showed that the samples did not recombine into Sm3(Fe,V)29, but rather, recombined into a mixture of aTbCu7 type phase and a-Fe(V). An extra XRD peak was observed after HDDR at 950°Candit is possible that this extra peak can be attributed to Sm2(Fe,V)17, since heating Sm3(Fe,V)29 directly to 1100°C under hydrogen, results in recombination into Sm2(Fe,V)17 and a-Fe(V). Material with an intrinsic coercivity of 580kAm-i (7. 3kOe) was obtained after HDDR treatment at 800°C and nitrogenation at 560°C for 4 hours.
