An evaluation on impulsive ultrasonic pulse radiated from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) transducers

Abstract

Impulsive ultrasonic pulses generated by polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) transducers driven by step-function voltages are evaluated by experiment and simulation. The estimate of the waveforms was carried out by the spectrums of the step-function voltages and the transfer functions calculated by Mason's equivalent circuit with the consideration of absorption and diffraction in the transmitting medium. The estimated waveforms were compared to the experimental waveforms. The results showed that the -6 dB pulsewidth and the relative voltage amplitude had good agreement in experiments and simulations.
