Abstract
An external-cavity mode-locked laser diode (MLLD) is designed for optical clock extraction. The optical clock extraction properties of this device, such as the generation of coherent ultrashort optical clock pulses with low timing jitter and the tunabilities over a large range of wavelength and repetition frequencies, are discussed. The application of the optical clock extraction with the external-cavity MLLD to all-optical demultiplexing at 200 Gbps is demonstrated.
