Abstract
Adsorption structure of 1,3-butadiene chemisorbed on Pd(110) has been studied by high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS), near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS), and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The HREELS and NEXAFS results revealed that 1,3-butadiene is adsorbed with π-bond and the molecular plane is parallel to the surface, in which the C-C single bond in 1,3-butadiene on Pd(1 1 0) is aligned toward [1 1̄ 0]. The adsorption site and geometry were determined on the basis of the STM image analysis.
