Abstract
We produced an amorphous a-UPd2Al3 bulk alloy and studied the effect of structure-disorder on heavy-fermion and superconducting properties of the crystalline c-UPd2Al3. In the AC susceptibility of a-UPd2Al3 between 0.4 and 40 K, a clear peak is detected at 3.4 K. However, no anomalous behavior has been observed at the antiferromagnetic transition temperature of 14 K and the superconducting transition temperature of 2 K observed for c-UPd2Al3. The electrical resistivity of a-UPd2Al3 also shows no superconducting transition down to 0.4 K. The electronic specific-heat coefficient is estimated to be 195 mJ/K2 mol from the specific heat results between 4.8 and 15 K.
