Abstract

A novel design methodology is proposed for ultrafast time-division demultiplexers. The circuit consists of three stages: the retiming stage, the AND processing stage and the reshaping stage. None of them has any feedback, so the maximum speed of the circuit is not limited by the loopback delay, unlike the conventional transistor-based demultiplexer (DEMUX). Each circuit is configured in a distributed fashion and operates by managing the induced propagation modes. The authors discuss the design concept, the circuit configuration, an analytical estimation of circuit performance of the proposed DEMUX.
