Abstract
The required signal to noise ratio (SNR) performance to achieve a bit error rate of 10-6 was studied for partial response maximum likelihood (PRMLK) systems. Various PRML systems were compared for perpendicular recording by computer simulation. Results revealed that over the density of 3≤k≤4, the PRML systems with positive coefficients exhibited good performance in the read/write channel.
