Abstract
We present a simple analysis for magnetic behaviors of exchange-coupled granular/continuous (CGC) perpendicular magnetic recording media. The analysis shows how the CGC media behave against a vertical external field. The slope of the magnetization curves is governed by the thickness ratio (γ) of a continuous layer tc to a granular layer tg and the domain wall energy σw of the continuous layer. The size of a magnetization reversal unit which would dominate the recording resolution and thermal stability can be easily evaluated by the present analysis.
