N2 - Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common disease in dementia practice. According to a recent community-based study, the prevalence of dementia was 8.5% and 60% of dementia subjects were suffering from AD. Since there is no evidence on primary prevention for AD, secondary and tertiary prevention including making early diagnosis and treatment should be emphasized. (18) F-FDG PET is considered to be a prominent modality in early diagnosis of AD with regard to high sensitivity and specificity. However the diagnosis of AD using FDG-PET was not covered by the national health insurance in Japan. In this article, recent FDG-PET studies on AD were reviewed.
