Abstract

The 1:1 reaction of [TcOCl4]- with tpen (tpen = N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine) led to the formation of [TcO(tpen)]2+ which is the first example both of seven-coordinate technetium(IV) and oxotechnetium(IV). The coordination geometry of the Tc(IV) ion is a monocapped trigonal prism.
