A novel octanuclear manganese cluster with [MnII 44-O)] core

    The reaction of MnCl2·4H2O with 2-aminoethanethiol (= Haet) under anaerobic conditions afforded yellow plate crystals of octanuclear manganese complex [Mn44-O) (Mn(aet)3}4]Cl2·MeOH·4H 2O. A complex molecule consists of four fac(S)-[Mn(aet)3] units linked to MnII44-O) core by thiolato bridges. Magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions through μ4-oxo and μ2-thiolato bridges.
