Abstract
A new single-cell-gap transflective LCD using an OCB-mode LCD compensated with hybrid-aligned discotic liquid crystal films and C-plates was designed to improve the response time and viewing-angle of transflective displays. We verified that a wide viewing-angle exceeding ±80° (CR>10:1) and a high contrast ratio over 1000:1 could be achieved in both reflective and transmissive parts by using optimum design parameters of compensation films.
