N2 - A new formula of position determination for a two-dimensional position-sensitive silicon detector was derived from a charge wave diffusion model including the effects of edge reflections. Its functional form is simple and therefore suitable for on-line use. The method was applied to actual data from a detector with 45 × 45 mm2 active area and 300 μm thickness and gave good position linearity. An optimum shaping time constant of the amplifier was determined on the condition that the effect of ballistic deficit is negligible and energy and position resolution are good.
