Abstract

A new superconducting layered nitride Mgx(PC)yZrNCl (PC: propylene carbonate) with x = 0:3 has successfully been synthesized by an electrochemical Mg-intercalation technique in PC used as a solvent. From the powder X-ray diffraction measurement, PC molecules are expected to be co-intercalated with Mg. The magnetic susceptibility measurements have revealed the appearance of superconductivity with the superconducting transition temperature Tc ∼ 15 K, which is the same as those in alkali-metal intercalation compounds AxZrNCl (A = Li, Na, K). The present Mg x(PC)yZrNCl is the first Mg-intercalated superconductor.
