Abstract

The reaction of a paddlewheel-type diruthenium(II, II) complex, [Ru 2 II,II(o-MeOPhCO 2) 4(THF) 2] ([Ru 2 II,II]; o-MeOPhCO 2-: o-anisate), and chloranil (QCl 4) leads to a charge transfer from [Ru 2 II,II] to QCl 4, forming a dimer-of-dimers of [Ru 2 II,III]+ units bridged by tetrachlorohydroquinonate dianion (QCl 4 2-): [{Ru 2 II,III(o-MeOPhCO 2) 4(THF)} 2(QCl 4)].
