abstract = "This paper describes a novel 4K 120 fps (frames per second) real-time HEVC encoder for HFR (high frame rate) video encoding and transmission. HFR provides more immersive viewing experience, and real-time encoding of HFR videos with low latency and temporal scalability is required for providing HFR video services. Multichip configuration with two encoder LSIs achieves full 4K/120fps real-time encoding. The exchange of reference picture data near the spatially divided slice boundary provides cross-chip motion estimation, and maintains the coding efficiency. The encoder supports stream output with temporal scalability transmitted over one or two transmission paths. It also achieves 21.8 msec low latency processing by using motion vector restriction.",
