45GHz transimpedance 32dB limiting amplifier and 40Gb/s 1:4 high-sensitivity demultiplexer with decision circuit using SiGe HBTs for 40Gb/s optical receiver

Abstract

A limiting amplifier with 32dB gain and 49 GHz bandwidth, a pre-amplifier with 45 GHz bandwidth and 50.2 dBω transimpedance gain and a 40 Gb/s 1:4 high sensitivity demultiplexer (HS-DEMUX) with decision circuit are for use in a 40 Gb/s optical receiver. The maximum gain at 40 GHz in the limiting amplifier and bandwidth in the preamplifier are reported as the best for semiconductor technology. Bit-rotation for byte synchronization is used by the 1:4 HS-DEMUX.
