Abstract
40 GHz tunable optical pulse generation from an external cavity mode locked semiconductor laser module (EC-MLLD) was discussed. It was found that a stable EC-MLLD module can generate wavelength tunable optical clock pulses upto 40 GHz by higher harmonic hybrid mode locking. The EC-MLLD, which has flexible tunabilities in wavelength, pulse repetition frequency and pulse width, can be useful in the evaluation of 40-Gb/s based optical communication systems.
