Abstract

The feasibility of optical time division multiplexing (OTDM)/wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission system was investigated by single channel 80 Gbit/s-1000 km and three channels WDM-600 km transmissions by using mode-locked laser diodes (MLLD) with an 80 Gbit/s OTDM module and multiple division multiplexing transmission line. Each type of MLLD generated Fourier transform limited Gaussian pulses with low timing jitter and showed very stable behavior during operation. The results showed successful transmission of WDM over 600 km with three MLLD which demonstrated the suitability of OTDM with MLLD for ultra high speed dense WDM.
