Abstract
lOGbit/s single-pass soliton transmission through a 1000 km dispersion-shifted singlemode fibre has been successfully achieved by using 22 erbium-doped fibre amplifiers. The repeater spacing was 50 km and 45 ps soliton pulses were transmitted without pulse broadening. The product of bit rate and transmission distance is as large as lOTbit/skm.
